‘It’d be incredible to win the Euros with Spain and move up with Almería’
Jorge Cuenca watched his team defeating Sporting de Gijón and he will play for Spain U21s in the Euros semi-finals
‘It’d be incredible to win the Euros with Spain and move up to Primera Division with Almería,’ exclaimed UD Almeria centre-back Jorge Cuenca during a friendly chat with Club’s official media from the title-holders Spain U21 training camp.
The Madrid-born player left after the match against UD Logroñés, in which he was in action in the last 10 minutes. He missed out on the involvement in the match versus Real Sporting de Gijón, as well as he will be out of action in the play-off semi-finals since La Rojita progressed to the Euros semis. In the event that UD Almería reached the play-off final, Jorge Cuenca would be up for grabs.
The 21-year-old footballer acknowledged ‘I’m focused on the national team, training and the European Championship, but of course I’ll also keep myself up to date with my team.’ In fact, he pointed out that he followed the game between UD Almeria and Real Sporting de Gijon on his laptop.
With regard to the European U21 Championship, Cuenca made it clear: ‘It’s a dream for me and for all my team-mates. We’re going to do our very best. We’re really hopeful and optimist. We know that we’re a brilliant team and that we can achieve great things together. Spain U21s advanced to the semi-finals after beating Croatia 2-1 in extra time in a match with starter Cuenca playing every single minute. As for the play-offs, the centre-back stated ‘I'm sure we're going to do a good job. We’re all going to start from scratch.’
