Rubi: 'We'll try to be sharper in the final minutes, but the important thing was to win'

UD Almería head coach Rubi headed to the Stadium 's press room after the match against FC Cartagena to assess the match. 'We played an extraordinary 70 minutes, but we weren't very effective in front of goal because we squandered many chances and converted two. Then we entered a stalemate, and the penalty made us all nervous, and we ended up suffering. If anyone is responsible for the last 10 minutes, it's me because what I tried to do didn't go as I expected. We'll try to be sharper in the final minutes, but we can't forget that we achieved an important victory,' he stated. 

 

The Vilassar de Mar native explained the changes he made during the match: 'You need to use players, some of them young  who need to gain experience and we have to go give them the chance. Also, we have to pace the squad, taking into account that there's another important match on Friday. We didn't lack personality, just experience.'

 

The Catalan insisted in the dying embers of the game, but tried to take the positives: 'It's important to be demanding, we understand that. It's a shame how the game panned out. Today we had to suffer in the last minutes, and it'll be good for some players who, due to their young age, haven't experienced situations like that.' 

 

Finally, Rubi emphasised that he remains confident in a fast-track promotion, but everything depends on the next match at Castalia Stadium: 'My approach hasn't changed, especially after winning a game. We have to win in Castellón; it's vital, and we must win both at home to see if we can get those victories. The possibility is there because if you keep adding 3 points, we'll cut the gap on direct rivals.'
