‘If we play like we did against Mirandés, we will achieve more than we think we can’

Mohamed El Assy appreciates José María Gutiérrez’ services and stresses that he is committed to an in-house coaching staff

The director general of the UD Almería, Mohamed El Assy, commented on the latest news of the club. The Rojiblanco leader ‘thanks José María Gutiérrez for the hard efforts he has made.’ He then explained: ‘there are times in football when the two parties agree that it is necessary a change of scenery, not just because job has not been done or work is being done well, but because we are not reaching the expected results. We have great respect for his professionalism and a good relationship with José María.’

After the decision to change the head coach, the sports management studied that ‘there are only twenty-four days left to complete the season, a situation that makes it complicated ‘bringing someone new who would have enough time to meet the players, when there is not even time to recover after playing every three days.’

In this sense, he mentioned that ‘we have got Mario Silva as the club’s technical director, he knows all the players and the system, he had seen all the training sessions, all the games and was fully aware of the current situation. We talked to him and he was convinced by his plan, so in the end we decided to bet on him.’

The director general of UD Almería also thanked ‘the players’ attitude’ in the match against Mirandés, since ‘they went all out for a win.’ In fact, he expressed his opinion that ‘the opposing team recognised the good game after the match.’ In this regard, he pointed out: ‘We also want to thank the footballers because since we arrived at the club last year, we haven't had much time. Actually, we had technical problems, so we had no choice but to change the head coach. We also had to make the team in a very short time, before the league started, and even so, we have managed to be the top scorer and one of the best defending. All this without having had as much time as other teams had to prepare for it.’

In addition, during the interview he did not hesitate to underline: ‘We know that if we play like we did yesterday in the next six games, we’ll get much more than we think we can.’

Lastly, Mohamed El Assy confirmed, regarding the loaned players, that ‘an agreement has been reached with all the teams and all the players who finished their contract and we have extended them for thirty days.’ This factor, as stated by the CEO, ‘is not something exclusive to us, but that all the clubs have reached this agreement.’
