‘If there is anyone who does not give 110%, that person does not deserve to be in this fight’

José Gomes highlights in his presentation that right now, the objective is to work in order to win

José Gomes highlighted in his presentation that it is ‘a great honour to defend the Almería’s colours. The head coach said: ‘Great players, great coaches have been part of the team they always valued themselves because Almería is a great club.’ Thereby, the brave character of the Portuguese head coach stated that he embraces ‘this challenge feeling determined.’ The Portuguese is aware that it will be necessary to work under pressure and, based on this, try to win. That is why he clearly underlined: ‘We all have to give 110%. If there is anyone who does not pull his socks up, that person does not deserve to be in this fight and the others can’t accept it.’

José Gomes acknowledged that he feels ‘highly motivated’, so he wanted to thank UD Almería for having thought of him to become the new first-team head coach. ‘I’m going to do my very best to restore the trust they have placed in me,’ he said.

Regarding his style of play, he pointed out: ‘I like to play football from the back, I like to control games with the ball and players with joy.’ However, he preferred to focus on the fact that now his ideas are the least, but that ‘it matters to work to win.’

The Portuguese head coach confirmed that there are ‘talented players’ in Almería, who have gone through many moments during the course. He sent a message to his new players: ‘they should not look back on the past results’, since in his opinion ‘it is convenient to look at the present to ‘be fully focused on what to do.’

Likewise, José Gomes continued his explanations on the basis that it is being ‘a very long season’, with all the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, in which the need to have a break is evident. Nonetheless, he exclaimed: ‘We are there fighting for something great that we must make efforts as this fight will not be easy at all.’

The new UD Almería head coach also talked about the first play-off knockout stage for promotion to the top-flight, defining Girona as ‘an experienced team’ and that will force Almeria players to have to protect the strong points of the Catalan squad. In this sense, given that there are no dates yet confirmed for the match to be played, he concluded: ‘If I have two more days to work, that’d be better for me.’
