Rubi: 'We showed a spectacular reaction'

The UD Almería head coach praises comeback win and travelling fans but calls for focus with 5 games remaining

UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' expressed his total satisfaction after UD Almería’s impressive comeback victory over Granada CF, while also urging caution despite his side’s return to the automatic promotion places.

'We cannot get carried away,' the head coach stated. 'We’ve achieved a vital win, but more than ever we must take it game by game. Our next opponents are CD Mirandés, who are very much alive and will make things difficult for us,' he added.

Reflecting on the match at the Nuevo Los Cármenes stadium, Rubi highlighted his team’s response after going behind. 'We showed a spectacular reaction,' he said. 'Both teams started well, although Granada CF took the lead with a goal we cannot concede. After that, we produced a very strong first half with plenty of attacking moves and chances,' he stated.

The gaffer admitted he was less pleased with aspects of the second half: 'I didn’t like that we began the second period playing too directly, but we gradually settled down and the fourth goal effectively decided the game.'

The Catalan also praised the collective effort of his squad, while singling out hat-trick hero Sergio Arribas. 'His ambition is at the highest level, he is never satisfied,' he noted.

The Vilassar de Mar native reserved special mention for the 1,000 travelling supporters, whose presence was strongly felt in Granada: 'Their support is extremely important for us and they always help us, as they did again here. An extraordinary atmosphere is building around the team and we must hold on to it. It’s vital.'
