Rubi: 'We had to put in the hard yards to win'

The UD Almería head coach was satisfied with the passage to the Spanish Cup round of 32, he valued Quintanilla's senior team-debut and highlighted the performance of opponents Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa

UD Almería head coach Rubi valued his team's victory in the press room of the Reino de León Stadium: 'We praise the opponents as they play very good football. I think it was a tight match. We had a good shot on us and that's why we won, but it easily could have been a tie,' Rubi stated.

The Catalan recognised that the Spanish Cup battle has brought good news for the Rojiblancos beyond the round passage: 'It's a match to get positive readings, knowing that the adversaries also put pressure on us and had changes to win.'

The Rojiblancos' gaffer spoke about one of the names of the meeting against the Cultural Leonesa. UD Almería 'B' youngster Quintanilla, who after being named in the senior-team squad list several times, finally made his debut with the first team: 'He's got  a lot of personality, at no time has he had any doubts about his ability, he's worked a lot. Furthermore, it's been a long time since he played a full game because he isn't playing with the 'B' team.'

Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' insisted on the team's effort this season, as the main cause of their good performances week after week: 'We've had to put in the hard yards to win. The changes have made a difference. It's true that we're in a moment in which we take all the games off the ground, the result of hard work and dedication. I asked my team to take it with the same motivation as the opponents and that's what happened. We started well, I think that with the 0-1 there was a period in which we were able to double the lead. Cultural have also had its good spells and have created those difficulties for us,' stated the Vilassar de Mar native head coach.
