García Pimienta: 'We suffered, but we managed to turn the tie around'

The UD Almería head coach praised UD Castellonense's outstanding performance, the difficulties the Rojiblancos faced and their ability to respond. He highlighted his players' efforts, with special mentions for Gui Guedes, Sola and Yaakobishvili

'We suffered, but we managed to turn the tie around, which was the objective,' said UD Almería head coach Xavier García Pimienta after his side's victory over UD Castellonense in the Spanish Cup first-round.

The gaffer emphasised the magic of the tournament, which was on full display in Villanueva de Castellón, where the ground was packed with fans, the atmosphere was electric and the opposition gave everything in an attempt to cause an upset. Indeed, García Pimienta described the hosts' performance as a 'great game'.

The Barcelona-born also praised his own team's efforts, saying that 'despite the difficulties we faced, we knew how to turn the scoreline around. We knew it was going to be very difficult and we suffered. They gave everything and showed a real desire to win. They never gave up and were always looking to claim victory'.

Xavier García Pimienta praised his players' attitude, singling out Gui Guedes, who returned after the injury he suffered on the opening Matchday; Yaakobishvili, who was in his element; and Álex Sola, of whom he said: 'He played all 120 minutes and put in an excellent performance. I'm really proud of him.'
