UD Almería head coach Xavier García Pimienta assessed his players’ attitude in securing a victory in Mallorca which he described as ‘vital and hard-earned’. He stressed that ‘his team knew how to compete and adapt to the different situations the game demanded’.

On that note, he explained: ‘We defended very well, staying compact, showing solidarity and being aggressive in one-on-one situations... The players rolled up their sleeves and knew how to suffer.’

The UD Almería gaffer also praised his side’s work with the ball: ‘When we had possession, especially in the second half, we had chances to score another goal and give ourselves greater breathing space.’

The Barcelona native added: ‘We knew what we were coming up against and what kind of opponent we would face. They're a top side with a great head coach and some outstanding players, but as I said, we knew how to adapt to what the game required at every moment, and that is something I really like.’

Asked about the importance of the victory and whether it could prove significant in the promotion race, Garcia Pimienta replied: ‘It’s only Matchday 7 and there's still a long way to go’, although he also acknowledged that ‘these 3 points give you confidence and reinforce what you are doing’.

Xavier García Pimienta also had words for the UD Almería supporters who travelled to the Balearic island, highlighting that ‘this victory is for them too’.
