The UD Almería head coach praises his team’s performance and belief after crucial victory against Málaga CF in promotion race
UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' described the win as ‘vital’ against ‘a top side’, highlighting its significance in keeping the team firmly in the race for automatic promotion to the top flight. Following the defeat in Santander, securing 3 points against another direct rival was vital, although the Catalan was quick to point out that ‘there is still a long way to go, 6 matches and it’s already clear how difficult it is to win games’.
The UD Almería head gaffer underlined that ‘the second half was a tremendous football spectacle from both teams’. He added, ‘we started very well, went 2 goals up and although Málaga CF equalised and pushed for a third with great bravery, we had clear chances to kill the game earlier and make it 3-nil’.
Rubi also stressed his side’s resilience, stating that ‘we never stopped believing, and overall I think our victory is deserved’. He went on to praise the impact of the substitutes, with Baptistão scoring the decisive 3–2 winner from a cross delivered by Javi Morcillo.
