Jessi: ‘We’ve had a season to remember’
The UD Almería Women captain reflects on the work done to achieve promotion, although as she pointed out: 'We would've liked to play the final match.'
‘We’ve had a season to remember,’ said UD Almería Women captain Jessi Higueras when reflecting on the team’s promotion to Segunda RFEF, the third tier of women’s football in Spain. It has been a brilliant, even spectacular campaign because of the team’s incredible journey throughout the season. On that note, the player explained: 'It's been a beautiful challenge,’ while also acknowledging the hard work required because nothing was handed to them: ‘We’ve dedicated so much time to training sessions and preparing for matches. I’ve spent more time with my team-mates and coaching staff than with my own family.’
Jessi would have liked to play the final match, which was not held after opponents SD Nueva Montaña from Santander failed to show up, although the tie had already been decided following the 0-4 result in the first leg. Even so, she admitted: 'Although we're very happy and satisfied to have achieved our objective, there's still a bittersweet feeling because we couldn’t put the icing on the cake with the final match.’
