Marc Pubill: 'It's been months of many emotions with a spectacular ending'
The UD Almería right-back proudly shows off the Paris 2024 gold medal and is now thinking about the league, ready to fight for promotion
Olympic Games men's football champion Marc Pubill in Paris 2024 has proudly shown the Club's official media the gold medal, an achievement that will remain with him forever. In fact, he stated: 'Going to the Olympics and on top of that, achieving greatness for your home country fills you with immense satisfaction. It's been months of many emotions with a spectacular ending.'
The experience was unforgettable: 'All the members of the team formed a solid group that had a very special connection and part of the success in winning the gold medal was because of this. Then, scoring the first goal in the Olympics Games, playing such exciting matches and winning them, being able to celebrate with my family there in Paris… they're unforgettable moments…' which is what he is going to do with the grand final Spain shirt and with the gold medal, which, for the moment, as he said: 'I have it at home next to the dining room. So when we sit down to have lunch, we're seeing it.'
Marc Pubill has once again earned a call-up to Spain U21 for some qualifying matches for the EURO 2025 that will be played in September. 'It's a reward for hard work that gives you a lot of confidence,' he stressed.
The right-back is now turning his attention to UD Almería and the new season. After the meeting in Paris, he rejoined the Rojiblancos in training. When asked if he was not swamped with football, he replied: 'Not at all. What I want is to play and compete. It was already very clear to me that when the Olympics were over I'd return to my Club.'
This Tuesday, at the start of training, he was exercising sidelined, in the medical room with the physiotherapists: 'I'm fine, although I feel a bit tired after the Olympics, the start of the league, the trips...' He revealed: 'I've spoken with Rubi, he seems like a great head coach and I like his style of understanding football. With his ideas and with everyone's graft, we must have a great season and return to the top division, which is the objective.'
The Terrassa native described the two-all draw at El Sardinero Stadium as positive, since as he argued: 'Last season, we were trailing and it was difficult for us to turn it around. Now we've had the capacity to react and it's very important. We use good tactics and we need to polish some things, such as not making things easier in defence.'
'Segunda is a highly competitive division and there will be many matches like the one on Matchday 1,' he continued.
Without going any further on Saturday, at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium, 'CD Tenerife will go all out to make up for the defeat against CD Eldense. We must be very focused and show our potential to try to beat them and grab the three points,' the 21-year-old concluded.
