Rubi: ‘It was a very competitive match in which both teams wanted to win’

The UD Almería head coach said that the nil-nil result is fair based on the chances created

UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' felt the nil-nil draw was fair considering the chances created at both ends of the pitch. In his overall assessment of the game, he stated: ‘It's been a very competitive match in which both teams wanted to win’.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, the gaffer explained: 'In the first half they were slightly better; then in the second half we started very well, although Burgos CF had a spell, which we expected around the middle of this period and again towards the end, which made us suffer’.

The Catalan also highlighted his team’s defensive performance noting: 'We usually concede goals, but on this occasion we were very strong defensively’.

Asked about the penalty reviewed by VAR and ultimately not awarded by the referee, the Vilassar de Mar native said: ‘I like when the referee makes a different decision, even if I say this in an action that benefited us, but I understand he judged there was no intent from the player and also no real chance to finish the move because the ball was going out’.
