Gonzalo Melero: 'I came to bring experience, enthusiasm and ambition'

The 28-year-old midfielder stated that he is looking forward to working with his new team-mates

'I came to bring experience because this is going to be my fifth year in the Primera Division, but I'm also coming with ambition and great enthusiasm to this UD Almería project,' stated Gonzalo Melero, one of the lastest signings made in the recent transfer window.

The Club has not been able to present officially any of the new summer recruits due to different circumstances, so a cycle of press conferences has just been opened so that the UD Almería fans get to know them better. Melero has been the first of them to be introduced, a 28-year-old midfielder who arrives from Levante UD. He had previously played for SD Huesca achieving promotion to top tier with Rubi as a head coach: 'I reckon the season I spent with him, even if it was in the Segunda Division, he was the best individually and also collectively,' underlined the new Rojiblanco, who then added 'we understand football in the same way, we share the same ambition and I think I'm in the best place to keep on growing.

The fact that Rubi is here is going to be 'a great help for me, to fit in his ideas from day one. This period of adaptation will be quite short, because I already know him.'

for the time being, Melero's goal is recovering from a muscle pain he suffered during a training session with his former side Levante UD before signing for UD Almería. On that note, he indicated 'it's an injury that doesn't have much importance either, hopefully I can get into the game against RCD Mallorca and being able to start training with the team sooner rather than later, so I can get to know them well footballingly and help.'

When asked how he feels about his new team, he replied 'They're doing things really well. Last season, in a very difficult tier, they achieved promotion, which is something that they've been able to experience in other campaigns. It's very complicated and at the moment, in the top division, they're competing brilliantly as I see it. The two home games against the greats have been one-on-one. It's certainly a little bit tougher playing away from home though. I believe the team can take a step forward, but they're on track.
