Fernando signs a contract extension with UD Almería until June 2022

The Rojiblanco keeper signs a new deal with the Andalusian club that will run one more year

Fernando, captain of the UD Almería first team together with Romera, has extended his contract with UD Almería for one more year with which he will continue to defend the Rojiblancos’ goal until June 2022.

Fernando Martínez Rubio, joined Almería in the 2017/18 season from UCAM Murcia. He signed a two-year contract. However, the keeper reached an agreement to continue pulling off great saves for two more years. In this way, the Murcian goalie had a contract in force until the 2020/21 season. As aforementioned, it has now been extended until June 2022.

Clubs need goalkeepers on the bench every match, ready to be called upon if the first-choice gets injured, is sent off or has a howler. The 29-year-old player ended up being the back-up goalie during the first two years wearing the red and white colours because of his former team-mate René’s brilliant goalkeeping displays. Nonetheless, he has established himself in the current season as a starter, highlighting his great qualities, as well as great professionalism and commitment to the club he represents.
