Fernando Martínez: 'We must finish the season as well as possible'
The UD Almería goalkeeper and co-captain considers that 'it is vital to restore the good vibes.' He appreciates the unconditional support of the fans in the midst of a tough season: "They always respond so well. We must thank them for their behaviour"
UD Almería goalkeeper and co-captain Fernando Martínez has opened up on UDA Radio about the campaign he is experiencing at the Club and highlighted: 'It's being a very complicated season due to how things are going, not only on a personal level, but also the collective issue of the team… it all comes together.' In addition, he added: 'This year, I get to experience it from the outside and it makes everything come alive much more and your head spins around more than when you are on the green.'
'After how difficult this season has been, enjoying the last few matches isn't going to be easy. Ending the campaign with a good taste and victories isn't the same as doing so in this rut,' he added.
UD Almería have a very difficult time achieving the goal of safety and for this reason, the 33-year-old goalie assures: 'You're getting used to the idea, but it's true that when the moment comes, mathematically it's going to be hard. I remember that last season we had to go down to Elche, who were in a similar situation and it was against us when they got relegated and I saw the players burst into tears.'
There is a moment in the season which, for the Murcia-born keeper, was a turning point: 'The Granada CF game at home was a day in which I believed that the team was going to win, after winning against rivals 3-0 and they tie in the second half... the vibes were very bad. That day is the one I went home the most screwed up, it was very difficult for me to sleep.'
Although it is true that the Rojiblancos are not managing to obtain good results, Fernando Martínez told the Club's official radio: 'The vibes have always been better than the results, we've been on very bad streaks, but it's true that the vibes always showed that we had deserved more. Although you have to be realistic, when it happens to you again and again, it's because we're doing something wrong. We have to see what has happened, but in terms of football we're a good squad and the vibes are different from what the table shows.'
To conclude his interview on UDA Radio, the Indálicos co-captain sent a message to the unconditional UD Almería fans: 'Thank you, because if the season is being very complicated for us, I don't want to imagine what it must be like for them. They always respond so well, they're always there, they encourage, they wait for us to sign autographs… we must thank them for their behaviour this season and ask them for forgiveness for the campaign,' concluded the goalkeeper.
