Gui Guedes: 'I'm working hard to take advantage of the opportunities'
The UD Almería midfielder is showing through effort that he is eager to continue being part of the senior team despite the fact that he recognises: 'We're a great squad there are great players who can play in my position. I'm learning a lot from them.'
UD Almería midfielder Gui Guedes has gone almost unnoticed in recent seasons in the Rojiblancos squad. He arrived in the 2022/23 campaign and only participated in one Spanish Cup tie. Later, he was loaned out to CD Lugo to continue getting minutes in his legs. Last season, he played again on loan for Porto II of the Portuguese second-tier. This year he is eager to demonstrate his growth based on perseverance: 'I'm very much into working day by day, which is what is in my power. Whether I play or not is not up to me. I try to do my best, participate more or less.'
The Portuguese states that he is putting in a lot of effort in training, as recognised by head coach Rubi. 'I'm working hard to take advantage of opportunities and I'm gaining confidence,' he said.
The 22-year-old midfielder stressed that the Spanish Cup tie against Sanse gave him a lot of self-confidence, which was perhaps what he needed to finally stand out: 'It was very important for me. I needed a game that gave me confidence and that's how it was. It was fine and it helped me a lot.'
Guedes claims to feel satisfied in the group and very well surrounded, having great role models in the dressing room: 'We're a great squad, there are very good players who play in my position like Melero, Robertone, Baba… and I think I'm learning a lot from them. They help me because they've got more experience than me. I like to listen to them to acquire as much knowledge as possible.'
The central midfielder also analysed the good run of results obtained by the Indálicos and stated: 'People talk more in the dressing room, it shows that we're much happier and united than at the beginning. This is good for everyone because if we win we all do it together. Many things have changed, but what has changed the most is mentally.'
