Gui Guedes: 'I'm focused on the present and returning as soon as possible'

The Portuguese UD Almería midfielder, admits on UDA Radio: 'When I got injured I was angry because I had the uncertainty of not knowing when I'd return, but life and football are like that.'

UD Almería midfielder Gui Guedes gave an interview on the Club's official radio to talk about the progress in his recovery process since he has begun to do ball work on the pitch. He suffered a fifth metatarsal fracture in his left foot and had to undergo surgery. Three months later, his injury comeback is getting closer and closer. The footballer began by sharing his impressions in this new phase of readaptation: 'I feel very well. I've started to exercise on the pitch with a ball and I'm also doing a lot of physical work because I've stopped training for a long time and I need to regain my physical strength. I've got great feelings, but we're going day by day.'

The Portuguese recalled his feelings when he picked up his injury at La Rosaleda against Málaga CF on Matchday 18: 'I was very angry the first weeks because I was going to be off the pitch for a few months. I had the uncertainty of not knowing how I would return, but football and life are like that. Now I'm focused on the present and returning as soon as possible.'

The 22-year-old midfielder believes that the psychological factor plays a fundamental role in a professional athlete and even more so in injuries: 'The mind is the most important thing, sometimes you're tired, but if you have a good mentality you can run the entire game. I think I'm a person who works very well and I try to make that noticeable in the meetings.'

Gui Guedes took the opportunity to thank the work of the professionals who are accompanying him in this process: 'Everything went very well, the doctor performed a fantastic operation on me and also the rehabilitation workers and the Club's physios have done a wonderful job with me. I'm delighted.'

In addition, the Santa Marta de Penaguião native covered other topics related to the team's current news and is convinced that Saturday's Andalusian derby takes on great importance due to the recent team dynamic: 'We're going through a rocky patch. If we happen to win against Málaga CF we'll be up there again. We don't have the need because there's still a lot left, but it's an important game. We want to grab all three points.'
