Gui Guedes: I’m 100% ready for this final stretch of the season'
The UD Almería midfielder makes injury return and sets his sights on a crucial clash against Málaga CF this Sunday
Gui Guedes is back and ready to go. After spending just over a month sidelined with a muscle injury to his adductor, the UD Almería midfielder has returned to full fitness and is once again available for selection.
'I feel really good and 100% ready for this final stretch of the season and that’s the most important thing,' said the Portuguese player in an interview with UDA Radio, the Club’s official station. 'I rejoined the team this week, but I had already been doing a lot of physical work last week, so I’m in perfect condition. It’s been a very quick recovery. Mentally, it’s completely different from previous injuries,' he added.
Looking ahead, Guedes made it clear that the Rojiblancos are fully focused on the upcoming derby against Málaga CF: 'We’re prepared to face the game and fight for the win. The defeat against Racing Santander hurt us in the first hours and days, but at this stage of the season we can’t dwell on the past. We made mistakes, we know that. Now it’s about correcting them and reacting.'
The midfielder also emphasised the importance of their fans' backing during this decisive period: 'We want this to be our year and it’s vital that the players, the fans and the whole Club stay united. People on the street tell me they believe in us and that’s something special. Feeling that support is key. We’re going to give everything in these final 7 matches.'
UD Almería’s strong home form is another factor Guedes highlighted. 'Playing at home is always an extra motivation. We know it’s more difficult away, but we need to improve there. People say we’re poor away from home, but we’re actually the 6th-best team. The important thing is to stick to our identity, whether at home or away...that’s how we’ll get closer to winning.'
Finally, the 24-year-old underlined the mental and tactical demands of the upcoming fixture: 'We must manage everything in these kinds of games, including staying mentally balanced. It’s a match where need to go 100% into every duel. It’s very important. Tactically, we’ve studied the adversaries, but it’s a mix of many factors.'
