Rubi: 'We're presenting our candidacy to aspire to greatness'
The UD Almería head coach values his team's positive streak, although he clarifies: 'This is very long and it's going to be hard. We're only two points ahead of many teams.' The gaffer was self-critical of the first half and proud of the second half
After the comprehensive 4-0 victory over Córdoba CF, the UD Almería head coach emphasised the sheer joy he felt for the relationship between the team and the fans: 'When you see happy people, you're happy. There's a team-fan connection and this is essential.'
The Catalan was self-critical when analysing the Andalusian game: 'We must admit that we weren't comfortable in the opening minutes. Córdoba CF performed a good first half. We weren't applying the game script that we had interpreted very well. I'm satisfied with the second half and proud with a lot of good news on some players who had been playing less, the debut of a 'B' team youngster... Now we'll celebrate it in half a day and tomorrow we'll start focusing on the very difficult match that awaits us on Saturday (CD Mirandés).'
The Catalan gaffer, who wants to keep his feet on the ground, downplayed the fact of having reached second place, an automatic promotion position: 'Let's say that this is going to be hard, very long. We're only two points ahead of many teams, even Levante UD have got two games in hand. We must be calm, but it's true that we're presenting our candidacy to aspire to greatness.'
Rubi explained the change of third of his squad after the restart compared to the first half, in which the Rojiblancos barely had a shot on goal: 'What we've done is a change of players with a totally different profile and remind the team of what we had to play in this game, we hadn't applied it well in the first half.'
Another highlight of the night is the debut of another UDA youth player, Perovic. The head coach is confident in the young man's future: 'It's a tremendous joy because we've had him in first-team training for days and we see significant potential in this footballer, I'm dead serious. He's still young, but he's a left leg that you've already seen in 8 minutes.'
