We are still in the fight!
UD Almería remain level on points with second-placed RC Deportivo de La Coruña after setback to Real Zaragoza
UD Almería continue to push for automation promotion to Primera and despite last weekend’s defeat in Zaragoza which saw them drop from second place to third, they remain level on points with the new runners-up RC Deportivo de La Coruña. The Rojiblancos sit third due to head-to-head goal difference, but they are very much in the mix. As head coach Rubi said ahead of the Ibercaja Estadio clash: 'If defeat comes and we drop from second, we can’t lose our heads', the focus must remain on working hard to reclaim that spot. Now the team are preparing to get back to winning ways in Huesca, where another demanding test awaits.
Looking at recent form, UD Almería are not lagging behind their main rivals. Over the last 7 Matchdays, the squad under Rubi has earned more points than their direct competitors, with 5 Ws, 1L and 1D. Racing de Santander and Deportivo have also won 5 games but lost twice, the same as Málaga CF. CD Castellón have suffered heavy defeats in their last 3 matches, while UD Las Palmas lost in stoppage-time against Albacete BP to close Matchday 30. The Canary Islanders have also recorded one win and 4 draws in this period.
The battle for the top spots is extremely tight. Racing de Santander have pulled slightly ahead, as they had weeks ago, but 4 teams are still locked together in the fight for second place, UD Almería among them. With 12 Matchdays remaining, the season’s final stretch promises to be intense and unpredictable.
