The UD Almería head coach stressed: 'After what our supporters went through last season, they deserved some joy to start the new campaign'. He praised his players' work and effort
'This win is especially dedicated to our fans,' stated UD Almería head coach Xavier García Pimienta during his post-match press conference following the game against CD Eldense on Matchday 1.
In this regard, the gaffer explained: 'I can imagine how tough last season must have been for them, but despite that our supporters are very excited. Almost 16,000 of them came to the Stadium and after what they went through because we failed to earn promotion, they deserved some joy to start this campaign.'
García Pimienta also had words of gratitude for the UDA supporters, highlighting that 'they were outstanding. They never stopped cheering, not even in the second half when we were 3-0 up.'
The Barcelona native was asked why only one of the Club's new signings had started the match. He replied: 'We selected the team we felt was best suited to the game without considering anything else. Last season's squad is a very good one; they were just one goal away from earning promotion.'
He added: 'I'm very pleased with the work and effort put in by the starters, as well as by the players who came on in the second half.'
García Pimienta was also very pleased to have kept a clean sheet, something that will be particularly important within his footballing philosophy. He further highlighted that the team followed the playing model they are looking to develop, which is to 'have the ball, take the initiative with it and combine to play.'
