Rubi: ‘We’ve boosted our confidence, now focus on CD castellón’

Following the emphatic 5-1 win over Real Sociedad 'B', the UD Almería first-team boss plays down table talk and urges focus on finishing the job

UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' struck a composed and focused tone after his side’s emphatic 5-1 win over Real Sociedad 'B'.

This victory has boosted our morale because scoring 5 goals in this league is very difficult. We already have to turn the page and think about CD Castellón,' Rubi said post-match.

Despite climbing into the automatic promotion spots, the UD Almería first-team boss refused to get carried away. ‘We must focus on ourselves. If we do our job properly, things will go well,’ he stressed, avoiding any speculation about the standings.

Asked whether the Rojiblancos had discussed other results before kick-off, Rubi revealed a clear internal approach: ‘We’ve been working on this mindset for months. Everyone knows the results, of course, but we don’t talk about themWe knew a win would fire us second, but we’re trying to keep that in perspective so we don’t add extra pressure. There was total concentration.’

That focus showed on the pitch, with UD Almería starting strongly and taking early control. According to the Catalan, that mentality will be crucial in the final stretch of the season.

‘With how tight things are, we’ll need at least 6 or 7 wins from the remaining ten games, almost certainly,’ Rubi explained. ‘So there’s no need to overcalculate. It’s about winning matches and shortening the countdown as soon as possible. But our rivals will fight to the death, teams play well, they’re tough and they’re difficult,' he added.

Now, all eyes turn to the next challenge, with the Vilassar de Mar native making it clear: 'No distractions, just the next game.'
