Morcillo: 'I hope to repay the effort that UD Almería have made'
The second January signing said he had offers from top-flight clubs but chose UD Almería because of their early interest. The press conference opened with a minute of silence for the victims of the Adamuz train accident in Córdoba
This Monday, Jon Morcillo was officially presented as a new UD Almería player in the press room at the UDA Stadium, where Club's CEO Mohamed El Assy began with a minute of silence in memory of those who died in the tragic train accident in Adamuz, Córdoba. The footballer, accompanied by his parents, expressed his happiness at starting this new chapter: 'I could've signed for a top-flight team, but I decided to join UD Almería in the end because of the great interest they showed me from the beginning. They wanted me to come, and now I hope to repay UD Almería's efforts on the pitch.'
The 27-year-old is an established player who arrives to add more attacking options to the team: 'I can be a different kind of player, complementing the strengths the team already have. I'm direct, a pure winger and I can contribute with crosses and counter-attacks. Hopefully, I can also score goals,' the player explained.
The Rojiblancos' need for a win in the last match forced his UD Almería debut in his first game: 'Rubi has talked to me a lot about his playing style because I have to learn quickly. He's already told me what he expects me to contribute.'
Regarding the competition, Morcillo praised his team-mates: 'Melamed and Embarba are top-level players, which is where they've played. They're spectacular. In the end, I reckon we can all play in different attacking positions and the more qualities we have, the better for the team.'
The next match will be against SD Eibar and the Amorebieta-Etxano native knows that type of pitch very well: 'It's a bit smaller than usual, which forces us to be more direct, but UD Almería have enough quality to take the game where we want it. In the second division, you have to adapt and make the difference to get the win.'
