Garitano: "It's a shame because we competed well against one of the best teams in Europe"
The UD Almeria gaffer highlighted the huge effort of his team in the match against Real Sociedad and clarified: "When we were at our best, a penalty came, one of those that they tell you is no longer whistled"
Gaizka Garitano took the positives despite the 1-3 defeat to Real Sociedad in the press room of the Power Horse Stadium. The head coach highlighted: 'When we were at our best that penalty came, we were defending very well and again in the 90th minute, we conceded another goal.'
Regarding the penalty, he added: 'They say that there are penalties awarded when you are the bottom team, and they also told us that those were not going to be whistled, but in the end, they always go against the weaker side.' Then, he stressed: 'It's a messed up day because we lost because of a penalty, although then, the third against us was scored.'
The Bilbao-born head coach assessed his team's game with the assembled media: 'It's a shame because my team competed bravely against one of the best teams in Europe. In the second half, we were doing well and it's bad luck that Real sociedad were awarded that penalty inside the box in a messy play and without danger...'
Despite the final result, Mr Garitano pointed out: 'I'm happy with the performance put in by my players. We were involved in the game for 90 minutes, but that unfortunate play came at the end and we were screwed.'
