Rubi: 'In such an evenly-matched game, it was clinical finishing in the opponents' box that decided the outcome'
The UD Almería head coach hails vital victory over FC Andorra and applauds the travelling fans’ unrivalled support.
UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia, known as Rubi, described his team’s 2-1 victory over FC Andorra as a crucial one, especially in a match that was finely balanced throughout. The Catalan gaffer acknowledged the efforts of both sides but emphasised that clinical finishing in the final third made the difference.
In his post-match comments, Rubi reflected on the tightly contested nature of the game, noting how both teams started strong in each half. 'At the beginning of both halves, they started well and had their chances, but then we settled into our game, created chances and managed to score 2 goals,l. We were more clinical in front of goal, and that made the difference,' he explained.
When asked about the key factor behind the win, mother Catalan pointed to efficiency: 'This is a very evenly-matched league and when games are tight, it's clinical finishing that decides the outcome,' he said. 'We saw two teams that gave it their all, that went all out for the win, but we were more decisive in the opponents’ penalty area,' he added.
Rubi also took the opportunity to thank the travelling fans who made the long journey to Andorra, expressing his gratitude for their unwavering backing: 'I want to thank the fans for their travelling support, especially those who travelled from Almería by coach, hitting many kilometres. I'm very chuffed that they're going home with the joy of victory.'
