Julio Hernando: "In our situation, it's key not to give up, train seriously and be professional"
The UD Almería conditioning coach has assured on UDA Radio that the team never gives up. 'The small details are taking their toll on us,' he points out
Julio Hernando, conditioning coach at UD Almería, has spoken to UDA Radio to discuss various aspects of his role within the coaching staff. He ensures that the players are giving their all and no one is going to give up: 'With regard to the negative results that we're getting, the most important thing is not to lay down our arms, show seriousness in training, be professional and move forward.'
The member of the backroom team explained: 'I've been practising this profession for many years and I always try to convey a little of my character, my desire, my enthusiasm... I'm sometimes capable of transmitting it,' and he emphasised: 'At the end of the day, everyone has their own personality, but what we try is to transmit that enthusiasm day after day. For me, that's the most important thing about a club and even more so in the situation we're in. We try to ensure that no one gives up, that they train, that they always respect their peers as much as possible on and off the pitch...always with the greatest intensity and professionalism.'
Moreover, Mr Hernando made it clear: 'You must coach the team the way you want them to play, that's the idea. What I can't do right now is asking my players to perform the high-block if they aren't able to speed up and add efforts two-three times in a row.' On that note, he highlighted: 'You prepare training so that after that type of effort during the week is shown in the matches. The team now spend more time in the opponents half and the defence is more advanced, and all this is working out.'
It is obvious that when one is in a happy mood, things usually turn out better and this has also been confirmed by the conditioning coach: 'Yes, of course, it's directly related to the emotions; It's clear that what a footballer from Girona FC is experiencing, for instance, isn't the same as what one from UD Almería is experiencing. The small details are taking their toll on us and that's what we transmit to our players,' he concluded.
