Embarba: "We have to fight until the numbers say otherwise"

The UD Almería right-winger recognises how complicated league survival has become, but he also thinks that it is not time to throw in the towel, take pride and try to get the first victory of the season on Monday against Sevilla FC, that will surely change the team dynamics

'We have to fight until the numbers say otherwise,' stated UD Almería right-winger and co-captain Adrian Embarba. He believes that it is not time to throw in the towel; quite the opposite, take pride and achieve the first victory of the season next Monday against Sevilla FC that for sure will change the team dynamic.

After the last defeat to Celta de Vigo, the league survival gap has gone up to 15 points: 'The truth is that it's been a very hard blow,' said the footballer, who then added: 'It was a key match for us because we were facing the rivals who sit just above relegation, but once again, for one reason or another, we lost; on this occasion, the fact that we played with numerical inferiority took its toll on us.'

The 31-year-old player acknowledged that the situation is 'very difficult,' although as he stated: 'This team has commitment and I reckon we show it every weekend'. When people are about to give up, they suddenly bounce back and play good games again. Before taking on Celta de Vigo, we recorded several consecutive draws when we even deserved the victory.' He considers it key, now, not to look at the table or make assumptions; just focus on Monday's appointment against Sevilla FC with the sole objective of adding the three points. On that note, he argued: 'You can't win ten games if you don't win the first, and this has to be the next. The whole group is psyched for it.'

The Sevillistas will go into the fixture in good shape and has undoubted potential. Nonetheless, the UD Almería player stressed: 'It doesn't matter who we face. We must win for our own pride. The dressing room is hurt by all the season and are eager to get a victory. We've even played better against opponents from the top of the table or big teams. I don't think it'll be easy for the opponents to play against us because they know that, although things aren't going well for us, we use good tactics and we compete well. Also, we have to be realistic, and I don't think they want to be the first team to lose against UD Almeria. It's inexplicable what is happening to us, we've deserved much more and sooner or later, everything will change. I'm sure.'

On the other hand, Embarba reflected that 'luckily, I've celebrated many promotions, but unfortunately there are also some relegations and I've got experience in both senses. I speak a lot in the dressing room with my team-mates, even with the Club. If we get relegated, I wouldn't mind to continue at UD Almería because I have a contract and because I've never left a place leaving no team in a way that I didn't like. I think I've proven my total commitment from day one. I'm very comfortable here and I feel at home.'

The right-winger, who this season is sacrificing himself in defence as requested by the head coach, does not don't know what can happen between now and the end of the season in the 11 remaining Matchdays, but he knows what must be done: 'Give everything for our people, for the fans, for the Club, for ourselves... and finish in the best possible way. Then we'll see where we are.'
