Rubi: 'The team's performance has been extraordinary'
The UD Almería head coach highlighted the defensive display after the victory over UD Las Palmas: 'It was a very tactical match, where both teams were clear about how we wanted to attack.'
UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' shared his post-match thoughts in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria feeling satisfied as it is their second consecutive victory of the season. 'It was a very tactical match, where both teams were very clear about how we wanted to attack and the players' performance was extremely disciplined and dedicated. We played a very good defensive game. I'd like to highlight the fact that we always scored and keeping a clean sheet is just as important as scoring,' the gaffer explained.
Rubi commented on Adrián Embarba's first yellow card, which later led to his dismissal: 'What they're telling us is that the ball didn't influence the play. We respect the referee's opinion, but we understand that the ball can distract the players visually.'
Regarding Sergio Arribas' match-winning goal, the Catalan believes the Madrid-born striker is a player who 'heads quite well. I'm not surprised because it's a quality we might not recognise in him, but he has it.'
Finally and briefly assessing the season to date, the Vilassar de Mar native acknowledged: 'We would've liked to have started better, but the two defeats we suffered were due to doing many things well. It was a matter of not getting nervous and not letting our confidence drop. I reckon we're going to be a tough team to beat. It'll be tough for us, but it'll be tough for our opponents too.'
