Rubi blows the whistle, like a teacher starting class
The UD Almería head coach's first tactical masterclass to instill playing techniques in his team has been delivered. This Friday, a double shift will be held behind closed doors again
After 4 intense days at the start of UD Almería's pre-season, Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' entered the classroom, wrote his name on the board and urged the students to open the tactics book to chapter one. Playing techniques for building from the back, the first lesson. This is how the Rojiblancos' 5th training session unfolded on the Anexo ground, with all the pieces distributed, the bibs handed out and the instructions and conditions for beginning to create the new UD Almería style of play.
This Thursday, in addition to the ball-striking, the team's gaffer provided instructions, correcting and positively reinforcing the players' performance. After the physical work of the previous days—two training sessions were held on Wednesday—the coaching staff focused on strictly tactics.
The practice then evolved into a small-sided 6-on-6 with goalkeepers looking to create space, open passing lanes and begin thinking quickly when making decisions; while the rest of the team-mates completed crosses and shots on goal.
The Indálicos will return to the Anexo ground this Friday to continue accumulating workloads; the next two sessions will actually be four, as there will be double shifts. On Tuesday, everyone will set out on a journey to Marbella for a 10-day pre-season training camp.
