The match against Las Palmas is one of those highlighted on your agenda
UD Almería head coach Gaizka Garitano stresses that this match is vital and they know that there is a lot at stake. The gaffer warns of the rivals' potential and points out that no one can throw in the towel now
UD Almería head coach Gaizka Garitano has looked ahead to Saturday's game against UD Las Palmas at the Power Horse Stadium and highlighted: 'It's a vital game, one of those that you have highlighted on your agenda; so we're going to think positively so this is the one that gives us a boost.' Furthermore, he added: 'We're all aware of the fact that there's a lot at stake' because, as he argued, it is not only relevant to begin to reverse the situation, but also, as he stressed 'for the future of UD Almería.'
The Rojiblancos' head coach explained: 'We have to know how to cope with difficult moments. The players must play with personality, fighting spirit and high commitment.' On the note, Gaizka Garitano reflected: 'We're privileged people doing what we like and we cannot make a drama out of setbacks, for example, when they score a goal, as it happened the other day. That's not the end of the game and we have to continue with our heads held high. It's one of the aspects that we're working on and insisting on.'
Mr Garitano acknowledged that the fact of being young players may be a handicap in this type of situation because the footballer has to get better at it, but he pointed out: 'The players are training well and I see them committed. We're quite excited that things are going well.'
When asked about rivals UD Las Palmas, the Basque Country native did not hesitate to comment: 'They play football very well, they have great quality and a good style of play, and it's difficult to win the ball back for their opponents. They concede very few goals, which is definitely one of their strengths and they also have a good defensive organisation. Facing them can give you the feeling that you aren't good because they have the ball; it's happened to the rest of the teams and it'll happen to us. We must put pressure on them properly and know how to do it because If we don't do it right, we'll pay dearly for it.'
The UD Almería gaffer stated that in Girona, his team made silly mistakes at the back, which they have tried to correct, but they also were a good version of themselves during the first 35 minutes; even until the 70th minute, since at 3-2, they were still involved in the game. Now the idea is 'to keep up the good work and extend the positive spells that we may have in the game.'
The man at the helm of the Indálicos was pleased to be recovering players from the defensive zone, with the likes of Mendes and Edgar, although he only trained without discomfort this Friday. Akieme is ruled out, although he remains a doubt, he could be available next week. In the current situation, 'players have to speak and show that they deserve their starting spots; performance has to be immediate and trust in those who are at their best,' he underlined.
On the other hand, the Bilbao-born considered it key and fundamental to secure points at home, starting with this Saturday's match, which will be his debut at the Power Horse Stadium. Therefore, the support of the fans will be decisive. When referring to the fans, he said: 'We know that they're with us to death and they're going to help us, but we're not here to ask them for anything, but to give them victories.'
'Everyone... fans, team, management, media... we're in the same boat and no one can throw in the towel,' he concluded.
