Rubi: 'The team deserved to win the game'

The UD Almería gaffer values the point, but considers that his team did everything to win: 'They worked hard to get the three points. I cannot blame our players for not being able to put a ball in the goal.'

UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' shared his post-match thoughts on the goalless draw against SD Huesca. Although the Rojiblancos gave it their all to grab the three points, they had to settle for a goalless stalemate. The Indálicos' boss began by making a brief assessment of the match in which he praised SD Huesca's goalkeeper who was definitely a titan between the sticks: 'We reigned superior because we had 23 shots on goal while they had 3. We created 9 chances against 1 and the rivals' goalkeeper was the MVP. We have to congratulate them because this is part of the game. We can see it as empty, but we deserved to win and with the tie we have 43 points.'

The Catalan was not satisfied, far from it, with the goalless stalemate, but he recognises that adding a point is always positive and means continuing to take steps forward in the fight for the goal: 'I'm happy when I win, but if the team don't win and do everything for it, it's a way to relieve yourself a little. For me, the important thing is that we didn't feel overwhelmed and it was a matter of scoring the goal.'

For Rubi, UD Almería have taken the reins of the match and he feels proud of the fighting spirit of his team: 'They played what we wanted and we weakened the rivals' strengths.'

Finally, the Vilassar de Mar native spoke about one of the factors that conditioned the encounter; the absences of the forwards, especially Luis Suárez: 'We must accept the situation. Rachad and Marezi had 20 squad list call-ups. The day you miss one, you miss all three... Life's coincidences... The team have put in the graft to win. I cannot blame our players too much for not being able to put the ball in.'
