Rubi: 'The team has also gained knowledge in how to suffer in games'
The UD Almería head coach highlighted the combative nature of his side in addition to the excellent defensive work on set-pieces. 'It's a step forward that we must continue in that way as much as we can,' he stated
UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' shared his post-match thoughts on the narrow, hard-fought victory against CD Mirandés: 'The first half was all about leaving with a lead greater than 1-0,. In the second, we also had some situations like the one-on-one with Luis Suárez. It's Worth highlighting that CD Mirandés are a team that make you uncomfortable, put pressure on you all the time. Since the beginning of the season, this UD Almería squad have gained knowledge in knowing how to suffer in those moments when they are not comfortable.'
The gaffer highlighted the good performance put in by the Indálicos when it comes to the defensive scheme: 'We've done well to avoid conceding from set-pieces, many direct and indirect fouls, corner-kicks... and we've resolved it quite well. It's a big step and we must continue that way as much as we can.'
The Catalan acknowledged before the clash that there was not going to be a big result on the scoreboard: 'You can't always be at 100% of your qualities, but they've worked hard to get the three points. There's a type of rival that suits us better and another that is worse, this was one of those that makes it difficult for you. I reckon we read the game well, we could've done more damage in some counter-attack situations, but I also knew that it was going to be a game with few goals.'
The Vilassar de Mar native praised his team on how they had approached the match and the opponents: 'I'm really chuffed with my team because they've taken CD Mirandés very seriously, we've trained knowing that tough rivals were coming, We knew they were going to make things difficult for us, in fact I see them with chances to be with the top teams because they're going to concede very few goals all season.'
Also, Rubi mentioned that he felt extremely satisfied with the UD Almería 12th Man, who played an important role throughout the full 90 minutes by cheering on the team and putting pressure on the visitors from North Spain: 'It was very nice, there were just a few minutes left and they saw that we needed that extra push and we had it. We're bringing joy to the fans, I'm very happy. They're enjoying again, which is what matters, sometimes with better football, other times with work.'
