Rubi: 'My team is fired up and eager to achieve great things'

The UD Almería's head coach reflects on the solid 3-1 victory over SD Éibar, citing strong first half and room for improvement

UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia, known as Rubi, expressed his satisfaction with his team's dominant 3-1 victory over SD Éibar, a result that sees his side climb into the automatic promotion spots in the table.

Speaking after the match, Rubi was clearly pleased with the outcome: 'We've achieved a second consecutive home win, something no one else has managed this season. We're now at the top of the table, we scored 3 goals in the first half… I'm chuffed.'

This victory against the Armeros marked another key step towards promotion, extending their unbeaten run to 8 matches. 'The team is fired up and eager to achieve great things this season,' Rubi added, emphasising the confidence running through his squad.

The Catalan was particularly impressed with his team’s performance in the first half, during which they took a commanding 3-0 lead: 'We were decisive in the first half and went into the break with everything under control,' he said.

However, Rubi was less pleased with his side's performance after the interval: 'I didn’t like the second half. We didn’t have the ball as much as we would've liked. But as I said, we were up against opponents who never stopped pressing and made things really difficult for us.' Rubi acknowledged the need for his team to push harder to seal the game: 'We needed to push a little harder to score a fourth goal.'

The Vilassar de Mar native was also asked about the incident involving Lopy, who appeared frustrated after being substituted due to a yellow card and his involvement in several contentious moments during the match. 'We always have to respect the head coach's decisions. He lost his temper and made a mistake. That's it. We'll handle it calmly and naturally,' Rubi responded with a calm and measured approach.
