Baptistão: ‘We’re eager to show some pride in Málaga’
The UD Almería centre-forward targets strong performance ahead of Christmas break
UD Almería's veteran centre-forward Léo Baptistão is determined to leave a positive impression at La Rosaleda Stadium as his side heads into the Christmas break. The Brazilian striker, who recently returned from an injury lay-off, insists the team will travel to Málaga with a renewed sense of motivation after a difficult stretch of results.
Having missed several weeks due to injury, Baptistão was back in the squad for UD Almería's latest outing, a defeat that left the Rojiblancos frustrated with their form. Speaking about the loss, the 33-year-old remarked: ‘We want to show some pride after not winning the last two home games. We’re united and motivated.’
When it comes to their upcoming opponents, Baptistão is fully aware of the challenge Málaga CF will present. ‘We expect Málaga to come out with a lot of energy and press us intensely,’ he acknowledged. ‘We know it’s going to be difficult but we’re going to give it our all.’
La Rosaleda Stadium has long been known as a fortress for the Andalusian side and the Santos native is under no illusion about the task at hand: ‘We’ll have to be at 110% because Málaga CF’s fans are incredibly passionate. The coaching staff and the players analyse every detail, and I reckon we’re on the right track. Leaving there with a W would be an incredible morale boost to start 2026 with positive energy.’
With promotion to top-tier LaLiga EA Sports still very much in their sights, Baptistão is focused on ensuring UD Almería do not miss out this time: ‘We’ve got another opportunity after almost achieving it last year. This year, we know what not to do and that’s been a learning experience. Based on the motivation I see and the path we’re on, I think we can do it.’
