UD Almería Women make the most of weekend break ahead of crucial relegation clash

Pedro López's side have no fixture this weekend and will use the break to prepare for next Sunday's crucial home clash against CF Unión Viera, with valuable points at stake in the battle to beat the drop

UD Almería Women have a weekend off but will remain hard at work as they prepare for a hugely important fixture next week.

The Rojiblancas will welcome CF Unión Viera Women to the Emilio Campra youth stadium on Sunday, 15 November, with kick-off scheduled for 12 noon (local time). The clash could prove a turning point in UD Almería' Women's fight for survival, with a victory potentially bringing them level with one of their direct rivals.

Pedro López's side head into the break in their best form since making their debut in the division. After opening the season with 6 consecutive defeats, the girls showed signs of improvement with a hard-fought draw away to Real Betis Balompié Women, one of the teams near the top of the table.

They followed that up last Sunday with a narrow victory over CD Guiniguada Apolinario, securing their first 3 points of the campaign.

4 points from their last 2 games have given the Rojiblancas a much-needed boost and brought them closer to the teams immediately above them in the standings.

Historic promotion brings new challenges

The victory over the Canary Islands outfit was particularly significant, marking UD Almería Women's first win of the season as they continue to adjust to life in the women's tier Segunda RFEF.

Having earned promotion last season following an outstanding campaign, they are competing in the third tier of Spanish women's football for the first time. Much of the squad that secured that historic achievement has stayed together, although making the step up to a higher level has inevitably proved challenging.

However, the team's recent performances suggest they are beginning to find their feet at this level.

Unión Viera up next in crucial 6-pointer

Another side from the Canary Islands will provide UD Almería Women's next test, with CF Unión Viera travelling to the Emilio Campra Youth Stadium next Sunday.

Unión Viera currently have 7 points, three more than the Indálicas. A home victory would see Pedro López's side draw level with their opponents and tighten the battle to move clear of the relegation places.

The Las Palmas-based side head into the fixture after suffering a 2-1 home defeat against Femarguín. Before that, they picked up an away win against Fuensalida (0-1).

Weekend break offers chance to prepare for decisive encounter

The break in the fixture schedule comes at a good time for UD Almería Women, giving the squad an opportunity to continue working on their recent improvements and build on the momentum gained over the last 2 Matchdays.

With 4 points from their last 6 available and another home fixture on the horizon, the Rojiblancas have a valuable opportunity to turn their recent progress into another important result in their battle to secure survival.
