UD Almería U16 B show heartwarming gesture of sportsmanship

The UDA Academy products scored a goal against CD Estepona without realising that an opponent got injured so they decided to counteract that advantage on the scoreboard

UD Almería U16 'B', a youth side competing in the Primera Division Andaluza, showed a heartwarming gesture of sportsmanship and fair play on the last Matchday. The young Rojiblancos faced the CD Estepona on the Los Pinos pitch located in the Almeria-based neighborhood of El Alquián. In a play of the match, they won the ball back from an opponent, who fell down, which put them in front 3-0. The Rojiblancos did not take notice at first. Then, once they scored and saw that the CD Estepona player got injured and had to be treated, they spoke to their head coach, Antonio Jesús Moreno, to suggest that they were up to counteract that advantage on the scoreboard. Needless to say, the head coach agreed to it, the lads from Malaga without opposition, the 3-1. After the restart play after that goal was netted, the Málaga boys scored without opposition (3-1). CD Estepona appreciated the good gesture as it was a sign of respect and appreciation for an opponent.

'It was the fairest thing we could do and for me, it's a satisfaction that the initiative started quickly from the players,' said Antonio Jesús Moreno, who added: 'In a stage of  youth development, other values ​​must take precedence over the merely competitive aspect, like this one that has occurred.'
