Diego Portugal: 'El Bilal Touré was injured when he suddenly broke into a sprint'

The head of UD Almería's medical department reports the latest injury news and explains that the Malian striker sprinted off at almost 35km/h.

Diego Portugal Maziel, head of UD Almería's medical department has been interviewed by UDA Radio, the Club's official radio station to report the latest injuries that several players have suffered in recent weeks. He explained that El Bilal Touré, who underwent surgery last Saturday in Madrid will have no choice but to bid farewell to the season, 'was injured as he broke into a sprint at almost 35km/h,' and added 'it's a rectus femoris muscle injury, and after assessing it with Dr Ripoll and given the fact that he's a young player whose dominant leg is that one... it was decided that he had to undergo surgery. The recovery rehab has already begun, although he's set for a long stint on the sidelines.'

Less serious was Akieme's injury, which was picked up when he kicked the ball, and for this reason 'we've decided that this kind of treatment is the best option and the truth is that his recovery progress is very positive.'

Diego Portugal also spoke about Gonzalo Melero and his return from injury: 'He had a soleus muscle injury, which can be very dangerous, but fortunately he's already recovered and now he's working with the coaching staff to improve his physical fitness.'

The head UD Almería's medical department  stressed 'there are many factors that influence when it comes to sustaining an injury, especially when they're indirect, such as stress.'

On the other hand, Diego mentioned 'the Ripoll and De Prado medical centre that is being built in the Power Horse Stadium will be a reality in the near future. It's going to be a FIFA medical centre of Excellence. In addition to being beautiful it will be available not only to our players but also to citizens in general.'
