Referee prevents clear chance for UD Almería to fight for promotion

With a 1-0 the Rojiblancos were 4th in the standings, 2 points behind second place. With a 1-1, they were assured of staying in the play-offs zone and with a 2-1, they will have to wait until Monday to see where they finish on the Matchday

UD Almería could have taken a huge step forward in the race for promotion to Primera had they not been harmed by the controversial decisions made by the Cádiz match official, the Basque native Daniel Palencia Caballero, who is making his debut in the second tier of Spanish football this season.

Using a comparison with what was written on the scoresheet for Kaiky's sending-off, the referee's performance prevented 'a clear chance' for promotion for UD Almería.

Although the entire Matchday 39 remains to be played, the truth is that UD Almería, with a 1-0, had climbed up to 4th place in the standings, just two 2 behind second place. Third-ranked Racing de Santander also fell one 1 behind, as they visit UD Almería Stadium next Sunday, 18 May.

With the score at 1-1 in the 90 +5', the Rojiblancis maintained their position in the play-offs for promotion to the top flight, although shortly after, in the 90+7', with time already up, the 2-1 came, meaning the Almería side will have to wait until Monday to see where the Matchday ends.

Using another simile from the Basque referee in his match report, this time with a red card awarded to Bruno Langa, the ref came onto the pitch 'using excessive force' when issuing red cards to the UD Almería players, sanctions that are, to say the least, more than questionable, especially the Mozambican's, which left the Indálicos with 9 players on the pitch with 40 minutes of the match to go.
