UD Almería still on target in survival bid

The Rojiblancos are now 7 points away from league safety with relegation-threatened RCD Mallorca 2 points above the drop zone following their one-all draw with Cádiz CF. The Rojiblancos do not give up all hope

Once the match, which relegation-threatened teams RCD Mallorca and Cádiz CF had in hand, has ended in a one-all draw, league safety for UD Almería is now 7 points away. That is the difference that separates them from the Palmesano side, who will be hosted by the Indálicos at the Power Horse Stadium on Matchday 17 (Sunday, 17th December), penultimate game of the year 2023.

UD Almería, despite trying their hardest at all times, are up against it as they have not yet won a single match in the competition. They sit rock bottom of the table with only 3 points after having played 14 official fixtures.

Andalusian rivals Granada CF (7 points), Celta de Vigo (8) are the other two sides in the relegation zone. Above the drop zone, RCD Mallorca (10) have emerged victorious only once this season, while Cádiz CF (11), have done so twice, like Sevilla FC (12).

If some of these teams do not start scoring soon, their LaLiga EA Sports status will be in serious jeopardy. UD Almería do not give up all hope as they will be boosted by the return of several key players from injury after the international break which could aid their survival bid. There is actually still time to reverse the situation, although it will not be an easy task considering the upcoming Christmas calendar.

The first test will see Real Betis Balompié visiting the Power Horse Stadium on Sunday for a 4:15pm kick-off. The Béticos are on a nine-game unbeaten run and sit 7th in the standings at the gates of European competition, where they are also competing at the moment. As visitors, they have won one game, shared the spoils in four and lost two, with a total of 8 goals for and 14 against. The clock is ticking so UD Almería will not only have to try to beat the Béticos, but record the first W of the campaign once and for all.

With this clear objective in mind, this Thursday, the players worked up a sweat at the Power Horse Stadium with full focus on tactics to outline the game plan with an eye to defeat Real Betis this Sunday. There are a couple of more sessions on Friday and Saturday to flesh out details.
