Rubi: 'UD Almería will always be known for an attacking, goal-oriented style'

The Rojiblancos' head coach outlines pre-season objectives, transfer plans, and the Club’s commitment to bold football from the Marbella training camp

Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia, better known as Rubi, is preparing for his fourth pre-season with UD Almería and the second of the Club’s current project cycle. Speaking to the Club’s official media from Marbella, the gaffer reflected on the team’s development, the ongoing transfer market activity and his unwavering commitment to an attacking brand of football.

The transfer activity in full swing with the summer transfer window still open, Rubi acknowledged that the squad is far from finalised but praised the Club’s efforts to secure a solid core early: 'In these times, it's difficult to have all the signings wrapped up, but we've made a special effort to bring in a strong base of important players to Marbella early on so we can start working properly.'

Compared to the previous year, this window is seeing much more movement. 'We needed a breath of fresh air. There have been and will continue to be changes in the squad. We want to improve on last season’s results,' he added.

The Vilassar de Mar native confirmed that between 4 to 6 new signings are expected, depending on player departures. 'Mind you. It’s about players who have asked to leave. It’s not always the Club’s decision. But if the focus isn’t right, we’ll find a way forward,' he argued.

Beyond technical ability, Rubi emphasised the importance of character and commitment in any potential signing. 'We dig deep into each player’s personal profile. We want people who come with burning enthusiasm and a real desire to stay with us for a long time with maximum involvement,' he explained.

While many tactical adjustments are shaped by the squad’s capabilities, Rubi insists that the Club’s footballing identity remains non-negotiable: 'The idea is clear: courage. UD Almería want to be a bold, brave team that never stops attacking. The nuances might change based on performance levels across different areas, but our hallmark will always be our attacking, goal-oriented style of play,' he stressed.

As pre-season continues in Marbella, Rubi’s message is clear. This is a team built on ambition, evolution and an unrelenting drive to attack.
