UD Almería join Euromelanoma campaign

Under the supervision of the prestigious dermatologist José Luis Martínez-Amo, coaching staff and players have undergone a skin examination

UD Almería, through its medical services, have joined and support the Euromelanoma campaign that tries to make society aware of the negative effects that can have the sun on the skin and thus, avoid skin cancer. Euromelanoma is a dermatologist-led skin cancer prevention programme conducting an annual screening and public education campaign.

Under the supervision of Almeria-born prestigious dermatologist José Luis Martínez-Amo, who has this campaign at the Andalusian level, the members of the coaching staff and the players have undergone a medical examination focused on the skin, at a general level and also on the moles.

It must be taken into account that, especially in summer time, footballers, coaching staff members, assistants... train several hours a day under blazing sun, so this test of the skin was vital in addition to advising the specialist on measures to be taken in a bid to avoid exposure to the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.

The coaching staff and players, fully aware of this subject, have shown great interest by asking Dr Jose Luis Martinez-Amo questions. Furthermore, with this fresh initiative adopted by UD Almería and the dermatologist from Almería, the aim is to raise awareness, mainly in the youth population, of the utmost importance of mole checks, self-examination of mole and other skin lesions, and use of sunscreen.
