UD Almería Women could clinch league title this Sunday
The Rojiblancas host Pavía at the Emilio Campra youth stadium and would be crowned champs if they win and Arenas de Armilla slip up
UD Almería Women could be crowned league champions this weekend in Group IX of the Tercera RFEF. The title is already within touching distance thanks to their commanding lead at the top of the table, but it could be mathematically sealed on Sunday.
The Rojiblancas kick off at 12 noon at the Emilio Campra youth stadium where they host Pavía in this weekend’s Almería derby. For the title to be confirmed, the UDA girls must win and second-placed Arenas de Armilla must lose at home to third-placed Melilla on Saturday (13h).
Matchday 18 takes place this weekend, leaving just 5 games remaining in the regular season. UD Almería Women lead the standings with 46 points, while Arenas sit on 37. If the gap stretches to 12 points, the Indálicas would secure the championship with 4 matches still to play, having already won the head-to-head goal difference against the Granada outfit.
The title appears to be only a matter of time. If it does not come this Sunday, it could arrive next week or shortly afterwards. However, there is no room for complacency. UD Almería Women are fully aware that they cannot afford any slip-ups in the run-in. On the contrary, they need to keep winning and score as many goals as possible to strengthen their position for the promotion play-offs or even secure automatic promotion.
There are 18 groups in the Tercera RFEF women's tier. Only one champion earns automatic promotion, while the remaining winners enter a play-off decided over a two-legged tie. For UD Almería Women that means finishing as the best champion among the two Andalusian groups, something they are currently achieving.
