There’s a new face at UD Almería. Meet Urci, a fox who becomes the Club's new official mascot and takes over from Rozam, the lion who has been a familiar figure around the team in recent seasons.

The choice of Urci is no coincidence. The fox is one of the animals associated with the Almeria desert, one of the province’s most distinctive landscapes and a key part of the identity of the Club and the supporters.

His name carries an equally strong connection to the region. Urci takes its name from the ancient Iberian settlement linked to the territory of Almería, bringing a piece of the province’s history into the Club’s new mascot.

And there was a special role for the fans in choosing it. The name was selected following a vote among the UD Almería season-ticket holders.

A new era

Urci’s arrival also brings Rozam’s time as mascot to an end. The lion, introduced during the Turki Al-Sheikh era, has been replaced by a character the Club believes reflects its local roots and the identity of Almería more closely.

The change comes in a special year, with the Club celebrating its 25th anniversary. Now, Urci is ready to get to work. He’ll be cheering on the players, firing up the fans and bringing his own energy to Matchdays as he becomes a new face of the Rojiblancos' family.

And there won’t be long to wait. Urci will make his official debut on Monday, 17 August, when UD Almería kick off their league campaign against CD Eldense.
