UD Almería fight to maintain play-off position amid fierce competition
3 consecutive winless games leave the Rojiblancos in danger as tight race for promotion heats up. Racing Santander lead the pack. The Indálicos sit 6th level on points with 7th-placed Sporting the Gijón
UD Almería have seen their promotion hopes shaken in recent weeks, dropping to 6th place in the standings and now facing an increasingly competitive field. The Rojiblancos are currently 8 points behind league leaders Racing Santander and 3 behind second-placed CD Castellón, with just a handful of points separating them from the chasing pack.
From third place at the halfway point of the season to sixth in just 15 days, UD Almería's position is under threat, with Sporting Gijón (7th) level on points (36), and Córdoba CF (8th), Burgos CF (9th), and Cádiz CF (10th) not far behind, all vying for the crucial play-off spots. Even AD Ceuta FC, in 11th, with a game in hand, could soon close the gap.
It was a weekend of missed opportunities for the Rojiblancos. Despite home defeats for rivals UD Las Palmas and Cádiz CF, as well as a draw for CD Castellón, Almería failed to capitalize, falling to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at SD Éibar. With 3 consecutive games without a win, the pressure is mounting.
The team’s recent slump mirrors a similar pattern from earlier in the season when they stumbled through matchweeks 3 to 5, before going on an impressive 9-match unbeaten run. The question now is whether the Rojiblancos can bounce back and replicate that form to regain momentum in the race for promotion.
The margin for error is slim and the Indálicos must get back to winning ways if they are to stay in contention for a top-four finish.
