Central defender Édgar González becomes second UD Almeria summer signing

The Sant Joan Despí native, who is 26 years old, is 1.9m tall and played 31 top-tier games for Real Betis. He pens a five-year deal

UD Almería are pleased to announce the signing of central defender Édgar González, a skilful footballer who will surely strengthen the Rojiblancos' defence since he has played 31 games last season for Real Betis. Despite Édgar is 26 years old, he has got an extensive experience in the Spanish top flight. He is 1.9m tall and has signed for five seasons, until June 2028. He becomes the second summer addition for the upcoming 2023/24 campaign after UD Almería activated Luis Suárez's option-to-buy clause a few days ago.
 
Édgar González Estrada was born on 1st April, 1997 in the Barcelona-based town of Sant Joan Despí and after kicking the first footballs at Cornellá and RCD Espanyol de Barcelona lower ranks, in the 2018/19 season he signed for Betis Deportivo Balompié, then he made the step up to 
the senior team in the 2019/20 season, playing 10 Primera Division fixtures. 
 
In the 2020/21 campaign, he was loaned to Real Oviedo, where his performances were outstanding in 38 league games with 3 goals scored. Next, in the 2021/22 season, he was a Real Betis first-team regular starter (21 league games, 7 Europa League matches and as many Spanish Cup ties). Last season, he was handed out starting spots 25 times in the LaLiga Santander, 4 in the Europa League and 2 in the Copa del Rey. 
 
Édgar González is a highly competitive central defender, who stands out for his aerial prowess in both boxes and all-round fighting spirit. Despite his considerable height, he has got a good passing accuracy, which also enables him to operate as a holding midfielder.
