UD Almería aim for first home W against table-toppers Racing Santander
Rubi's men face defensive crisis as leaders come to town. Brazilian forward Thalys set for debut
UD Almería return to the UD Almería Stadium this Sunday at 6:30pm (CET) in search of their first home win of the season, with league leaders Racing de Santander providing the opposition in a highly anticipated Matchday 4 clash in LaLiga Hypermotion.
The Rojiblancos, who opened their campaign with a thrilling 4-4 draw at home to Albacete Balompié, are determined to secure their second victory of the season after picking up 3 points away in León. Sunday's fixture promises fireworks as both sides, promotion hopefuls and former play-off semi-finalists, boast impressive attacking credentials.
However, Rubi’s side face mounting challenges at the back. With centre-backs Chumi and Nelson sidelined through injury, Dzodic on international duty and Pedro Fidel not yet fully fit, Italian defender Bonini stands as the only available specialist centre-half. The head coach admitted he will be forced to improvise, potentially fielding players out of position in central defence.
New signing Thalys, a 20-year-old Brazilian striker, has been confirmed in the squad list and could make his debut. Absentees also include Soko, Perovic, and Bruno Iribarne, all unavailable for selection.
Despite defensive instability, UD Almería have already conceded 6 goals in 3 games. The Andalusians remain optimistic. Rubi highlighted the importance of fan support, especially after the electric atmosphere during their home opener. A strong result against Racing could be a turning point in UD Almería’s push for promotion.
