Eguaras: ‘I’ve always dreamed of playing in the first division’

The midfielder states ‘I’m really confident and eager’ to play in the upcoming 2022/23 season

UD Almería midfielder Iñigo Eguaras has caught up with the Club's official media at the pre-season training camp in Montecastillo, Jerez de la Frontera. The Navarra native player explains ‘pre-seasons are always demanding and quite long and you have to get in shape. We now have Real Madrid CF on the horizon and we're really looking forward to the match.’

The team keeps most of its players from last season, and in this regard, the 30-year-old player stated ‘the group is the same with some new signings joining, but we already know what we have to do.’ He then acknowledged ‘It’s true that the vibes during this preparation haven’t been as we’d like,’ although Eguaras clarified ‘we’re working to perform at the same level as last season.’

The Antsoain-born spoke about the friendly played against Granada CF last Saturday, in which the Indalicos came back from being down 0-2: ‘This team never gives up and the other day we were narrowly beaten because of a strategic move after having drawn; We need to be extra vigilant in this type of actions.’

Eguaras has operated both as an offensive and defensive midfielder and has helped enormously with his versatility in the midfield: ‘I like leading the team, I like having the ball, I feel comfortable and I'm really looking forward to starting the new campaign. When asked about the thunderbolt scored against Granada CF, he replied ‘the head coach is putting focus on the second balls and I was lucky to kick the ball well, but we’d have liked to end up winning.’

Íñigo Eguaras warns that UD Almería are going to give it their all next season in the top tier. On that note, the player pointed out ‘even though a recently promoted player always looks weaker, we have a large group of immensely strong, young players with a bright future ahead. The interviewee faces this season with confidence and great enthusiasm: ‘I've always had the dream of playing in the first division. You have to show that you're worth it to play in this tier.’
