Edgar: "This is football and nothing is impossible"
The UD Almería centre-back recognises UD Almería's complicated situation in the league, but states: 'A single match can change your season' and he truly hopes it will be this Sunday's fixture in Granada. The Rojiblanco praises the loyal fans and shows his commitment to the Club
'Our situation is very complicated, but this is football and although it may seem difficult, nothing is impossible,' stated UD Almería centre-back Édgar in a press conference to talk about the current team's situation in general, and Sunday's encounter in Granada, in particular. 'We're two very needy teams. In our case, we've been suffering for many Matchdays, it's been a complicated year and each game means a final, an opportunity that can change your season,' he explained. This could be the turning point in the Indálicos' winless run at the Nuevo Los Cármenes Stadium.
The 26-year-old player knows that the difficulty is enormous, but as he revealed 'the dressing room continues working hard in a bid to go into the match in the best form and achieve the victory we need.' He also considers that it can be achieved there because 'we're on the right track, although we can no longer talk about progression, but about winning.' Meanwhile, he pointed out: 'At the beginning of the league, we were a very offensive team with a lot of attacking players and we suffered a little defending. Now, we defend much more as a group, there's more emphasis on the midfield, on the wings, which are essential in this tier and we have improved in set-pieces.'
Edgar also highlighted the importance of the mental toughness and on that note, he stressed: 'When you've gone so many games without winning, it makes it even harder. We have to know that in Primera Division you can concede a goal and it doesn't have to have a negative impact, but rather continue with the game plan, being fully aware that there are things that cannot be foreseen.' About this same theme added that “anxiety about winning cannot appear and make you lose focus on what that you have worked; I think we have to stay calm in the games, like the other one did day when we were left with ten. “We knew how to react positively”
The Rojiblancos are raring to redeem themselves from the first half of the season, in which they tied against Granada CF after going into the break with a clear and emphatic 3-0 score: 'We played a brilliant first half, but we couldn't keep the result on the front unchanged. It was tough mentally for everyone. miss that opportunity, but that was a long time ago. A lot has happened since then,' Edgar recalled.
UD Almería will not be alone at Nuevo Los Cármenes Stadium since the Rojiblancos will travel in numbers to root fir their team: 'What the fans want for their team is victories and we aren't achieving any. We feel mainly responsible and we want to return the support that they show us every game.'
Edgar, who signed at the beginning of the season until June 2028, was questioned about his situation in case of relegation, and his response was blunt: 'In no case do I want to think about Segunda Division. As long as there is a chance to stay up, we believe in ourselves and work hard. Afterwards, whatever happens, I've signed here for a project not for a year or for a specific situation. I believe in this Club and in the way of experiencing football in the city.'
