Edgar González: "In football you can't throw in the towel; You must keep trying"

The UD Almería central defender highlights the importance of the positive mentality and the rebirth of the team under the instructions of head coach Pepe Mel, as they prepare for their next match against a 'powerful and dangerous,' CA Osasuna

UD Almería central defender Edgar González has chatted to the media about the team's state of mind after their recent victory and to preview the team's match next Saturday against CA Osasuna. 'It's going to be a tough game, against opponents who are powerful, who presses high, and have very dangerous players. It's a match in which we have to be physically and mentally prepared, we must build on the first victory,' he explained.

In addition, the 26-year-old highlighted the excellent physical shape in which CA Osasuna centre-forward: 'Budimir is great and dangerous within the box, he gives a lot to his team, he unblocks plays and they constantly play him in. He already scored against us there goals and of course, we must be very careful with him.'

The UD Almería central defender also spoke about the new head coach arrival: 'With the arrival of Pepe Mel, we all have renewed strength, we finally won the other day and we must keep it up for the next few match weeks.' Moreover, he shared his thoughts on the victory over UD Las Palmas: 'It's a sheer joy, because we aren't where we want in the table. But working from the positive is always better than with a defeat.'

Edgar could not feature in the past fixture in Las Palmas as he was out due to suspension. 'From the outside, you suffer more than on the pitch. I was very envious of not being able to be there with them, but super happy to finally give the fans some joy. Now it's time to win at home,' he stressed.

The Sant Joan Despí native took stock of the team's season by talking about the playing styles that have changed throughout the games. 'The first months we had a lot of prominence with chances and possession of the ball. We were very focused on attack and then they hurt us at the back, with Garitano it changed and we were more attentive to playing in the defensive zone. We improved a lot in this aspect, maybe we lost that offensive danger a bit, but we conceded little. We entered into a bad team dynamic and these are things that we've been improving. Over the last two months, football has been unfair, we've done many things to win, but we couldn't achieve it, the other day in Las Palmas, without playing a not very good match...well, we won.'

Edgar González also spoke to the press about the UD Almería youth player who made his debut in Las Palmas. 'Marcos Peña is a player that I've liked since I saw him, he's got great qualities. He works hard, asks a lot of questions and is always trying to learn. He played a brilliant game without any errors. I'm very happy for him. I'll do everything I can to help him,' he stated.

To conclude his press conference before, the Indálico footballer was sincere. 'In football you cannot throw in the towel, you must keep trying and above all, give the fans the three points at home, which they truly deserve. The mental aspect is key in this sport, when you have confidence, more things work out and that gives you the feelings of victory,' he said.
