Rubi: 'In light of the even contest, we deserved the win'

The UD Almería head coach reflects on first victory of the 2025/26 season. Matchday 2

UD Almería’s head coach Rubi expressed satisfaction after his team secured their first W of the season, praising their defensive discipline and overall performance. Speaking in the post-match press conference at the Reino de León stadium, the Catalan highlighted how the team’s focus and hard work paid off.

'We were very focused throughout the match,' Rubi said. 'There was a stretch around the 80th minute when Cultural had two opportunities, but overall, we played a very complete game. We worked hard from the start, waiting for our moments to shine. In light of the even contest, I think we deserved the win.'

Rubi also had words of respect for the opposition, noting the challenge posed by Cultural Leonesa, a newly-promoted side playing their first second-tier home match in 7 years. 'They were a very motivated team, committed to the game and running hard. We didn’t create any clear chances and were also very committed ourselves,' he remarked.

Despite the close nature of the match, Rubi felt UD Almería had control: 'We carried the majority of the game’s burden. They could’ve conceded more, but overall, I think we earned the win, and the victory is deserved.'

Looking ahead, the Vilassar de Mar native is optimistic about his team’s attacking potential. 'I see our team capable of scoring a lot of goals. Last Matchday was an example of great attacking play, though it's still too early to make final conclusions. We need to take things step by step,' he concluded.
